The current world record holders doing the conga in wellington boots!

On Saturday 10th October 2009, the village of Witherslack in Cumbria will join forces to raise money for the charity HEAL Africa who are based in a town on the Congo-Rwanda border. In the Spring, a team of volunteers are heading out to help the organisation in any way they can in the disaster zone which was described by the International Rescue Committee as “the worst humanitarian disaster since World War II” and the area is now characterised by extreme violence, mass population displacement, the collapse of public health services and rape is a weapon of terror. HEAL Africa is doing an incredible job healing those who have suffered so much in conflicts and natural disaster.

In order to raise funds, the residents of this small Lakeland Community have organised their big fundraising event, the Witherslack Welly Weekend which takes place on Saturday 10th October. There is plenty of fun to be had with welly-related games including welly-wanging, wellie decorating and and filling wellies with flowers.

Conga for Congo

Aside of  all the fun, Witherslack are also hoping to break the world record for the highest number of people doing the conga in wellies and hope to have at least 250 visitors taking part! In order to help this fantastic cause, here at wellieboots.com we have donated wellies to help with the fun weekend and to raise funds for the people suffering in Eastern Congo.
