A few weeks ago we were contacted by a small UK based charity called Gumboots. This charity works with children in South Africa whose lives have been affected by poverty and its associated problems such as AIDS. Gumboots raises funds in the UK, USA, Canada and South Africa to fund projects including education, strengthening communities, dance groups and other life-changing activities.

The latest Gumboots campaign involves the subject on everyones lips; the World Cup! Between the 11th June and 11th July 2010 there will be a lot of attention drawn to South Africa with the World Cup and this is an opportunity for everyone to help make a difference.

Gumboots contacted us here at wellieboots.com asking for any wellington boots we could donate in order for them to create collection ‘vessels’ at World Cup related events and matches, so we packed up as many as we could find and sent them off to Gumboots ready for conversion, and I have to say they look great! Look out for these funky wellie boot collection tins at any World Cup events near you, any donations will make such a difference to the underpriveleged children and families in South Africa.

The Gumboots Mission: Gumboots helps children in South Africa whose lives are disadvantaged by poverty and AIDS

1)  To empower children through education whilst ensuring their basic needs are met by providing food, shelter, healthcare and recreation.

2) To strengthen and support local home grown projects with local leadership whilst securing long term funding.
