A few weeks ago we were contacted by a small UK based charity called Gumboots. This charity works with children in South Africa whose lives have been affected by poverty and its associated problems such as AIDS. Gumboots raises funds in the UK, USA, Canada and South Africa to fund projects including education, strengthening communities, dance groups and other life-changing activities.

The latest Gumboots campaign involves the subject on everyones lips; the World Cup! Between the 11th June and 11th July 2010 there will be a lot of attention drawn to South Africa with the World Cup and this is an opportunity for everyone to help make a difference.

Gumboots contacted us here at wellieboots.com asking for any wellington boots we could donate in order for them to create collection ‘vessels’ at World Cup related events and matches, so we packed up as many as we could find and sent them off to Gumboots ready for conversion, and I have to say they look great! The festival season is well and truly upon us. Isle of Wight and Download Festival are getting the ball rolling in June, closely followed by Glastonbury at the end of June, which means one thing…Summer is here! The RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2010 kicks off this week, 25th-29th May 2010 at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, London. On the RHS website, I found someTop Tips for Visitors of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show which include:

• Wear sensible shoes – much more comfortable than tottering around in 4 inch heels!
• Arrive early and visit the stands you really want to see first.
• Take a notebook and collect website and email addresses so that you can make purchases from home at a later date and have them delivered direct to your door!
• When taking notes in your notebook, make a note of where you saw it e.g. the stand number.
• Grab a show catalogue – it includes an essential map and has details of the nurseries you may wish to order from.
• Take a digital camera to get some pictures of plants and their labels; scribbled notes are good but photos are even better!
• Make sure you’ve charged the camera battery and take an extra memory card if you have one!
• Take a mobile phone or two per group just incase you lose each other or want to meet up.
